I first heard about IGT when my lactation consultant told me she didn't feel a lot of glandular tissue in my breasts. She didn't really tell me about IGT, though - I guess I learned that on my own from the Internet!
ReplyDeleteI wish there was more encouragement to still breastfeed. My LC never mentioned an SNS and I wish I had introduced it early on to at least try it back before nursing strikes. Most LCs tell you to take domperidone and send you on your way. There is so much more than that!
I am defining our success by my LO getting a little bit of breast milk every day. He's 9 months old and has had at least a little bit every single day of his life. It's not much, but it's the best I can do, and I try to be proud of that!
I am SO thankful for this blog, for Nyssa, for our Facebook support group, and for all the professionals who actually take the time to understand TRUE low milk supply!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great blog and giveaway!! I first learned about IGT through MOBI, I've defined my success by the wonderful moments I wa able to share with my daughter while nursing her until she was 2. I can't imagine not having the sweet memories we are left with after all the hardtimes!
ReplyDeleteI first learned about IGT through a friend when I donated milk through her. We couldn't figure out WHY she couldn't produce so I started doing research for her. At first we thought she may have had a hormone imbalance due to years and years and years of birth control then we found IGT and that seemed the likely culprit. We're hoping that with her next, we can help her produce just something and use an SNS.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you first learn about IGT? - FB group - was just looking for a low supply group and found the IGT and low supply group...I had never heard it termed as that, just knew I had low tissue d.t. pcos.
ReplyDeleteWhat resources do you wish were available for moms with IGT? ANY professional who had heard of it would be nice, really;)
Many moms with low supply feel a sense of failure. How did you define your own success? Giving my baby some of my milk daily for 8 months - I gave her all I could possibly give her with the information I had.
I found out about IGT on the internet. Well, my IBCLC mentioned it first, but in passing, and then I started to do more research about it. I was very much in denial.
ReplyDeleteI wish there was more common knowledge about it. I wish there was a proper official diagnostic procedure available. I wish there were more studies and research being done NOW for us.
My baby has been on human milk from day one. We still maintain a breastfeeding relationship with the SNS. It is the closest thing I can have to a "normal" breastfeeding relationship, and I have fought to have it and give my baby solely breastmilk.
Thanks Nyssa! I learned about IGT from you! :) THANKS for being just a great educator, supporter and advocate for breastfeeding! <3 I shared on my facebook, but I don't know how to put the link for you. I'm technically impaired....lol
ReplyDeleteI learned about IGT from MOBI. I was devistated and a bit relieved at the same time, knowing there was a reason I coulnt produce for my first two babies. My lactation consultant couldn't tell me why I wasn't producing and just said keep doing what you are doing. They would say don't supplement with formula but I had to or my babies would starve. My third child I am nursing with many herbs, domperidone, and a Lact-Aid supplemental nurser. I feel that giving my baby all the breastmilk and nursing time (which is all the time) that I can is our success story!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you first learn about IGT? I learned about the actual NAME for it from my lactation consultant, then forgot about it (I guess I thought I was the only one) until recently when a friend hooked me up with the FB support group.
ReplyDeleteWhat resources do you wish were available for moms with IGT? More docs armed with the knowledge that such a thing exists and what breasts may look like.
Many moms with low supply feel a sense of failure. How did you define your own success?
Well, I successfully nursed/supplemented with a bottle with my fifth baby till 21 months! TWENTY ONE MONTHS! That's about 17 months longer than the last 4 kids! And...the only reason we stopped was cuz she started biting and that combined with pregnancy tenderness was too much for me.
I heard about IGT on Facebook. I wish mamas with IGT were given more reassurance that they can nurse, with or without assistance. I know too many mamas who were wrongly told to give up before even starting.
ReplyDeleteI say to define success one day at a time.
I first learned about IGT through you, Nyssa. I have experienced it first hand myself but I give you major kudos for sticking with it this long! Congrats on almost making it a year!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you first learn about IGT?
ReplyDeleteI learned about it from googling.
What resources do you wish were available for moms with IGT?
More support and care providers with knowledge of it.
Many moms with low supply feel a sense of failure. How did you define your own success?
With my first, we did 6 weeks. I felt like a failure then. I have my second due any day now, and success will be defined by giving as much of mommy's milk as I can without going crazy doing it.
I learned about IGT from you, Nyssa! I do not have IGT, but I have unexplained chronic low supply. Thank you so much for your blog and your FB page, because some days I only make it through with the support from all the ladies on there! I hope I can win some of the More Milk Blend so I can see if it helps my supply for my DD2 (3.5 months).
ReplyDeleteI learned about IGT on facebook after the birth of my last baby. I'm not sure if I have IGT or just low milk supply. I'm pregnant again and praying something works this time and I can EBF my LO. I would love to win some More Milk Blend to use this time around!
ReplyDeleteI don't have IGT, I actually had a breast reduction as a teen, but our nursing struggles are all very similar. I first learned about IGT through a Facebook support group for nursing moms.
ReplyDeleteIf first heard about IGT while doing some research on breastfeeding to better prepare myself as a doula. While I know I don't have IGT, I have suffered from low milk supply in the past for other reasons. I'm about 24 week pregnant now, and I would love to be able to nip any supple issues in the bud this time and be able to breastfeed for as long as baby wants to.
